Coinbase – One of the leading bitcoin wallets – is increasing their focus on the merchants as it has just released a point-of-sale application, allowing merchants to accept bitcoins as a payment method. Consumers can pay for their goods or service simply by downloading the application and using it to pay while they are in the merchant, bringing new life to the bitcoin after the last weeks drops of value.
The new application allows for consumers to only pay for goods and not to withdraw and transfer as it allowed previously, to make it even more merchant friendly. The application is currently only available for Android devices as Apple decided to remove the application from their appstore back in November.
Coinbase offers merchants a payments API and gives them the possibility to receive bitcoins via email, by embedding a button on their website or simply by integrating the coinbase plugin in their store. Merchants are charged a low one percent fee for all transactions, making the payment method very merchant friendly, as well as providing all merchants with the first $1 million in transactions completely cost free.
