When the Bitcoin ATM was installed in Brisbane, Australia, it was a big day for the Aussie’s, as they could now buy the virtual currency with fiat money on the street, rather than having to sign up online and purchase them there. The joy didn’t last that long however, as the ATM has now been seized by the police in a drug trafficking case.
The police decided to seize the ATM as they linked it with the Bandidos biker gang and drugs, but has yet to inform what kind of role it plays in the raid where they uncovered a multi-million dollar meth trafficking network.
The police however must believe that the ATM has been used to either launder money or to do transactions for drugs, as they are currently doing forensic work on it. Hopefully for the Bitcoin it will not amount to anything, as the Bitcoin and their ATM’s cannot handle a drug trafficking case where they Bitcoin was used for the anonymity.
