The American Red Cross is now accepting bitcoin donations through the bitcoin payment processor BitPay. They will help the American Red Cross processing bitcoin donations through a BitPay hosted website, without any fees, so the Red Cross will be able to receive 100 percent of all donations made by the bitcoin community.

“Introducing the American Red Cross to the bitcoin community is really going to showcase the generosity of this new group of consumers,” said Elizabeth Ploshay, head of the non-profit outreach for BitPay. “Bitcoin users are extremely passionate people who are looking to put their bitcoin towards good causes. I’m sure the community will be excited to have such an established charity to donate to.”

This step gives Red Cross donors an even larger selection of donation methods. BitPay enables to donate in varying amounts, giving also people with limited budgets a chance to take part in a simple way.

“The Red Cross is thrilled to partner with BitPay to offer a different way for generous donors to support our humanitarian mission,” said Jennifer Niyangoda, executive director of Corporate and Foundation Programs at American Red Cross. “This gives a new generation of supporters the opportunity to help people in need.”

The Red Cross, one of the largest humanitarian organizations in the world, will also take part in the newly established bitcoin tradition “Bitcoin Black Friday”, where users of BitPay can take advantage of various bitcoin-specific sales opportunities.
