What is Dash?
Dash is a popular cryptocurrency which was founded back in January 2014 as XCoin initially, but quickly changed to Darkcoin. In March of 2015 the developers once again changed name, this time to Dash, which is the name that has taken them to the top of the cryptocurrency community. Dash was founded and developed by Evan Duffield, but has since grown in size and currently employs around 50-60 people.
Dash was created as an open-source peer-to-peer cryptocurrency, where users can transfer funds to each other either instantly or with a small delay. It also operates as a self-funding and self-governing project where users and companies who provides value to the network can get paid to submit their work.
When Dash was launched, as XCoin, there was a mistake in the Litecoin fork it used, which meant that a lot more coins were mined than there was supposed to be. Within the first 48 hours, a total of 1.9 million coins were mined, equal to around 10% of the total distribution, which meant that the market got overflown with Dash coins.
Duffield made multiple suggestions to the community towards fixing the issue, including relaunching the coin with the bug fixed, but none of the suggestions were received positively by the community. Instead Dash continued with the coins in circulation and Duffield fixed the issue for future mining. The coin was quickly one of the more traded coins in the community, having quite a low value initially.
Dash is currently the 12th most valuable cryptocurrency based on market capitalization, having a value of around $400 a coin, a market cap of around $3.500.000.000 and a daily trade value of around $110.000.000 at the time of this article (March 2018). There’s currently close to 8 million Dash coins in circulation out of a max supply of 18.900.000 Dash.
What Can I Use It For?
Dash is a multi-purpose cryptocurrency, depending on whether you are looking to use it as a corporation or as a private person. In its core, Dash has been designed to be used mainly as a payment method, where you can transfer funds across the globe instantly, pay merchants for their services or goods or even pay bills.
This means that if you are looking to transfer funds to someone in Asia, while you are in the US, you can theoretically use Dash to do so. Simply enter the amount you want to send to the other person, insert their wallet code and if you choose instant, the Dash will be available within seconds across the globe, at a low fee.
Transferring of Dash to other people can only be done in certain denominations, such as 0.1, 1 and 10 for example. The maximum amount of Dash that can be transferred at once has been limited to 1000 Dash for security and network reasons. Furthermore, it is a completely safe, secure and private way to transfer funds to other people, companies or merchants, as the network ensures that any data of your transaction will be anonymous. This is done by combining identical transactions made by multiple parties into one transaction and from there create multiple output, making it untraceable.
There are also other uses for Dash, such as long-term value investments as well as using it for gambling, betting and similar things. Since the company behind is so big by cryptocurrency standards, they are constantly working on implementing new features the coin can be used for, making it a coin for the future and not just for the current high stakes cryptocurrency environment.
Whether you are looking to obtain some Dash coins, trade them against cryptocurrency pairs or just looking to bet on their long-term value going up or down, you’ll need some safe, secure and reliable sites to do so from. There are a lot of sites out there offering these services, but if you don’t watch out, you might be at risk of your account getting hacked, the coins disappearing or simply getting cheated in value.
