York County will soon have a mini casino

Penn National Gaming, which is currently operating the Hollywood Casino near Harrisburg and

Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course in Austintown, Ohio, has received the sanction to develop a casino in Yoe, York County. It is finding a location within a 15-mile radius of Yoe for the setup.

The CEO of Penn-Northwest Development Corp., Randy Seitz, said: “I was shocked. We were guessing the first bid would be 10 to 15 million.” Penn National Gaming has agreed to pay $50 million. A mini-casino would be located outside of central location in Grantville. There is a vacant supermarket in West Manchester next to the West Manchester Town Center. A potential site may also be available in Springettsbury.

The licenses were auctioned off to 10 casino developers in Pennsylvania. Auctions are held once in every two weeks, and the minimum bid is $7.5 million for the license. However, an additional $2.5 million is applied for the table games. As per the CEO of the Mercer County Visitors and Convention Bureau, the tourism board is trying to make York County an all-season destination.

She said: “Something I hear almost every single day from businesses is the struggle to fill positions. These are the kinds of amenities that, if done properly, can draw people to live here, pay taxes, and buy homes.” Due to lack of facilities for winter events such as skiing, the season starts from January to April.
