US Virgin Islands targets US online gaming market

US Virgin Islands Attorney General Vincent Frazer has announced it intends to offer legal and regulated online gambling along the same lines as New Jersey, Nevada and Delaware. According to Frazer, the island’s current online gambling legislation is ready for it.

The island’s Casino Control Commission asked the Attorney General in March for his opinion on the existing legislation, the Virgin Islands Internet Gaming and Internet Gambling Act, which was passed in 2001. The AG deemed the Act to be legal.

According to the Virgin Islands governor John de Jongh Jr, “This marks a turning point in the diversification of our gaming industry from land-based casinos and racinos, to internet gaming and gambling. The implementation of this Act will fulfil our mission of attracting very successful global internet gaming companies to the Virgin Islands, and encourage new investments to our struggling economy.”
