Priest Admits to Embezzling Half a Million Dollars for Casino Visits, Dinners and Concerts

Monsignor William A. Dombrow, the rector of a church-owned retirement home for Roman Catholic priests, has pleaded guilty to four federal fraud counts.  He admitted that he had skimmed money over a nine-year period from a Villa St. Joseph account that he was responsible for. Half a million US dollars was used by him to pay for Philadelphia Pops concerts casino visits and high-end dinners.

The facility in Darby, run by the Philadelphia Archdiocese houses ageing priests and is a place where priests who have been accused of sexual abuse are treated.  Much of the money stolen was from insurance payments of parishioners’ estates and priests who had died.

When confronted, the 77-year old was cooperative and admitted to fraud.  He will face a three-year minimum sentence federal prosecutors say.
