Poipet city police have arrested two people for selling drugs to gamblers at casinos in Poipet on the Thai border. One of the accused is a Cambodian national while the other one is a Thai national. The suspects are known for gambling and drug dealings, according to the deputy commander of Poipet city military police, Sar Sopheak.

Police have seized around 249 grams of crystal methamphetamine from four packages, 32 pills of crystal methamphetamine, one scale, two mobiles, a motorbike, along with other drug related material from the duo.

Both the suspects have tested positive for drug use. The identities of the two have been revealed. Taing Porroath, 45, is the Cambodian national and Phanya Mung Charoenchi, aged 33, has been identified as the Thai national.

Sopheak told the two were active drug dealers “who always brought drugs to sell to gamblers in casinos in Poipet”. He further said that the most of the foreign gamblers used drugs in the casinos in Poipet.

The accused have been sent for questioning over the charges of the drug use and drug trafficking to the Banteay Meanchey provincial court. If convicted they may get up to two and three years each behind bars.
