The decision to stop construction of the Red Water Casino project in Leake County will soon be decided by various tribal members. The petition sponsor to end the project, Nikki Comby, has stated that they do not want to take the risk of adding any more debt.
The total amount expected to complete the project is $25 million. Chief Anderson recently explained that the debt would be paid off within 18 months after construction is completed and that it would allow the debt to be reduced quickly by using the new revenue that it is expected to bring in.
According to Comby, monies will have to be borrowed now after the tribe was told that this was not the case.
1 612 signatures are needed for it to be voted on by the people of the county and voting could take place within the next 60 days.
