The Oneida Indian Nation announced today that they are planning on creating a $20 million casino in Chittenango, around 20 km east of Syracuse. The casino will be themed as the Wizard of Oz movie and be placed in the village where the author, L. Frank, was born.
The plans for the new casino was announced right after the Gaming Commission in New York announced that they have given three casinos a license to create a casino in New York, with one being only 60 km outside of Syracuse. The Oneida Indians do not need to obtain a license or permission from the state, as they will build the casino on their land.
"The Yellow Brick Road Casino will create numerous construction jobs for our local trade workers and more than 250 permanent positions once it opens," Ray Halbritter, Chief Executive Officer of the Oneida Indian Nation said.
It is not the first casino that the Oneida Indians will be building and operating, already operating the casino “Turning Stone” in Verona. Turning Stone is a big casino with golf, hotel, restaurants and various entertainment, while the new one will be more casino focused with 400+ slots, bingo hall, a western bar and much more.
