Miami Beach Fast-Tracking Casino Ban

Share

After a recently announced approval by the Miami Legislature agreeing to grant another casino license in South Florida, Miami Beach City Hall officials immediately fast-tracked their opposition to any casino or other gambling operations in the city.

The chance for gaming expansion was killed just days before the end of this year’s legislative session, as Miami Beach officials immediately drafted ordinances banning gaming.  This is now being accelerated through the approval process.

The citizen planning board which is meeting next week, will form a recommendation on the ordinances to change the zoning laws in order to put an end to gaming; this will be voted on shortly thereafter.

Some residents are in favor of the ban stating the Art Basel Fair, which is exhibited every December in the city, is a more important event and that this would be jeopardized if gaming were to reach their community.
