MGM Resorts International has declared its plans to launch a new casino in Bridgeport’s Steelpointe Harbor area on Monday. The casino giant expects to create thousands of jobs with this move.
Further details of the casino and the entertainment complexes are supposed to be out soon at the press conference scheduled at 11 a.m. local time, today at Steelepoint. MGM requires the approval of the state legislature and plans to partner with the RCI Group, a developer group of apartments, offices and retail spaces, on the project.
The idea of coming up of yet another casino will again bring in the debates on how stiff the gambling industry in Connecticut can grow with the growing competition and burden on the state’s two tribe-owned casinos as Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun.
MGM is currently building a $950 million casino complex in the Springfield area which is scheduled to open in 2018.
