As of January this year, there are already six casinos in Maryland. The newest establishment is the MGM National Harbor Casino in Prince George’s County, which opened on December 8th. Maryland Live Casino at Arundel Mills retains the lead as the state’s largest casino. However, there was more than 11% decrease in its December 2016 revenue as compared to what the operator earned during the same period the previous year.
Rob Norton, President of Cordish Global Gaming and responsible for overseeing Maryland Live anticipates a certain number of players from Washington, DC and Virginia to switch temporarily to National Harbor but remains optimistic that they will return. What sets Maryland Live apart from the competition is its charity fund which has accumulated $500,000 for the first 17 days of January.
“We feel we are well positioned to be the first choice among customers in the Maryland-DC area”, Norton said in an interview for Maryland’s News This Week. He also expressed admiration for the unique casino market in Maryland with its three largest operators located within 30 miles and serving 7 million customers.
