Casino officials have refused to pay out a US man’s jackpot amounting to US$100,000 (A$133,000) because his friend pushed the button for him “for luck”.
The paradox unfolded on the premises of the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood where Jan Flato and his friend Marina Navarro were gambling on Mr Flato’s player’s card.
It then turned out it was Ms Navarro who had actually won the prize, not Mr Flato.
The casino published an official statement which read that whoever pushes a slot machine button or pulls the arm is the person who wins the jackpot.
After collecting her winnings, Ms Navarro claimed Mr Flato sent her offensive messages later the same night.
“Having me as an enemy… not good,” he allegedly wrote.
“We’ll see who made the big mistake – it won’t be me,” another message said.
Ms Navarro is reported to have offered Mr Flato a share of her prize but she reconsidered the idea after receiving the text messages.
