Local Casino Revenues Drop Against Statewide Record High

Last year, Mohegan Sun Pocono and Mount Airy Casino Resort reported a decrease in their table games revenue. There was a 7% drop at the former (from nearly $49M in 2015 to about $45M in 2016) and an 8.6% fall at the latter (from about $46.6M in 2015 to nearly $42.6M in 2016). However, figures published by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board show that the total amount of money earned from table games across the state was over $853M in 2016, which is approximately 5.6% up compared to the $808M in 2015.

According to Joe Weinert, executive vice president with Spectrum Gaming Group in New Jersey, competition from leading Sands Casino Resort is likely to blame for the decline in table games revenue at Mohegan Sun Pocono and Mount Airy. Sands Casino announced over $230M from table games in 2016, which is 7% more than the previous year.

Doug Harbach, spokesperson for the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, expressed satisfaction with Pennsylvania’s gaming revenue market which retains its second position after Nevada despite intense rivalry from casinos in Ohio and Maryland.
