Japan, next gambling mecca?

Japan next gambling mecca?

Tokyo being chosen for the 2020 Olympics has had an unintented side effect in the casino industry. Many Las Vegas based casino operators have started scouting for casino sites as rumours of a new law legalizing gambling resorts have spread like wildfire.

The rumours have been fueled by the decision of the International Olympic Comitee that Tokyo would be host to the 2020 Olympics and it is expected that Japan will approve of the developement and operation of casino complexes since these would add to hotel capacity and entertainment options for visitors to the 2020 Olympics. These casinos would also bring in much needed jobs and boost the economy by nearly $10 billion.

Among the many Vegas based casinos which have been lured by the potential of Tokyo as the next gambling mecca are Las Vegas Sands Corporation, MGM Resorts International, Caesars Entertainment Corporation and Melco Crown Entertainment. The possibility of a legalized casino industry comes shortly after the first attempt for such a legislation failed when it was proposed to help rebuild the country after the 2011 tsunami.
