Genting Casino wants to open casino in Miami

Genting Resorts World announced last week that it intends to pursue regulatory approval from local authorities to open a slots-only casino on the Miami waterfront. If approved, the Malaysian casino company would partner up with another three companies which would allow the conglomerate to use a permit held by Gulfstream racetrack to open a casino in Biscayne Bay.

If approved, Genting would set up up to 2000 slot machines and off-track wagering stations. The proceeds would mostly go towards further thoroughbred purses at the Gulfstream racetrack. Administrative costs would be covered by both Gulfstream and Genting.

Florida Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Association CEO, Lonny Powell, said “I think it’s game-changing. This is the first partnership where the revenue stream and investment would actually go back into the horses”.
