The Tonoho O’odham Nation Officially announced the construction of their long-planned project of building a casino resort on the borders of Glendale and Peoria only after a decade of buying it. The project will commence by the end of the year. They also own class II casino on the property at Northern and 91st avenues.
There were attempts to stop the casino for almost a decade, but the state of Arizona and Tohono O’ Odham announced the settlement to the legal challenges in May. According to the agreement, the Nation will progress with class III gaming at its west valley facility under an amended tribal-state gaming compact. The state will also further process its certification and license in the ordinary course of the regulatory process.I n exchange of this the nation has given its agreement of not conducting classII nd class III gaming anywhere else in designated geographical area world that includes metropolitan Phoenix.
In addition to this, the nation has also agreed to not make any request to Secretary of the Interior to take any other land in that area for gaming purpose in the process of the term of the agreement.
The nation is further ready to expand the desert diamond casino, and the construction will begin by the end of the year, and the first phase of it is said to be done in 20 months. Also, the current casino will remain open during construction. The building of the new resort to the north of the current casino would be done.
The spokesperson of the nation stated that they would not bring any changes to their existing layout and games. TOGE witnessed strong success after opening the Desert Diamond Casino- West Valley in December 2015.
