Charlestown residents aim for host community

According to the 2011 law, a host community is “a municipality in which a gaming establishment is located” and gives them the right of negotiation with the developer over terms in order to agree with the project such as compensation or services to mitigate impact of the business.

Charlestown residents have started a petition to designate the town as a host community of a future Everett casino, a Steve Wynn project of $1.2 billion. Residents claim their neighbourhood will be very affected with the plans as “the majority of vehicles traveling to the Casino will pass through Charlestown. Also, the entire neighborhood is closer to the Wynn Everett site than approximately one-third of the residents of Everett.” So far, the petition has collected 254 signatures.
