The entry fee for all casinos in the Philippines would have a harmful effect on the sector’s thriving mass market as it would include the lower end of the mass market and customers who bring their families along.
The Filipino gamblers consider gambling more as an entertainment, compared to Chinese gamblers in Macau.
The decision came after the assault by a gambling addict on Resorts World Manila that left 37 dead, including both gamblers and employees. The Philippines House and Senate largely blamed Resorts World and the firm that supplied its security for the deaths.
Citing serious security lapses made by the casino, the casino’s licence to operate was suspended on Friday by the country’s gaming regulator PAGCOR.
The aim as of now is to restore faith in safety and security of the Philippines as a tourist spot. There is reluctance whether the bill would pass, even if it does, it would hardly affect the VIP segment.
