15 Arrested In Casino Loan Sharking Ring By Macau Judiciary Police

12 men and three women mainland Chinese nationals have been arrested for their alleged involvement in a loan-sharking ring that targeted casino gamblers at Cotai casinos by the Macau Judiciary Police. The suspects were involved in a scheme that charged gamblers extremely high-interest rates, based on an agreed principal amount of RMB7m.

The suspects are said to be from the same loan sharking operation that led to arrest of 21 individuals in March and June the very year. The police are still searching for the mastermind in this connection working along with their mainland China counterparts.

The suspects would be facing charges of being associated with an organized crime ring and will be transferred to the Public Prosecution Office for further inquiries.

The numbers of gaming-related offenses in the Macau have reportedly risen in the first three months this year, jumping up by 15.2%. Most of the cases are in connection with loan-sharking operations that target Macau gamblers growing every year-on-year by 16%.
