The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has made some significant revenue boosting changes by amending its Player Protection Directive. The minimum return to player (RTP) percentage will be lowered from 92% to 85% and this be applicable to both land-based and remote operators.
The new amendments are made after a closed consultation with industry stakeholders, including consultants, business-to-consumer operators and business-to-business operators. Discussions with the industry ranged from the RTP percentage to possible implications of the the percentage change on product offering, operations, and competitive position. The MGA also conducted a comparative analysis of RTP percentages and practices elsewhere.
The MGA will soon publish a policy paper that will include a summary of the discussions it had with the industry. The comparative analysis will also be reported in it. Further changes can be expected for those licensed in Malta as additional focus will be on responsible gaming, in particular the protection of minors and other vulnerable persons.
