The U.S. Supreme Court Agrees To Hear New Jersey’s Sports Betting Case

In what looks like a victory in a war that has been going on for the past 5 years in the state of New Jersey with the major American sports leagues, the U.S. Supreme Court has announced to hear the state’s appeal to offer legalised sports betting.

If won, the State would be allowed to offer sports betting at its casinos and racetracks.

The Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA), was introduced in the year 1992, that prohibited the sports gambling in all the states leaving Nevada, Delaware, Montana, and Oregan.

The arguments on whether to legalise the sports betting in New Jersey will be heard by the court in October.

The current New Jersey’s law is opposed by different Sports organisations that include the Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association etc.

Philip Bowcock, William Hill’s Chief said it was necessary to recognise, PASPA failed as a law. He further added that the new gambling rules would create over 100,000 jobs and could raise billions of tax.
