Sports betting Bill Approved in New Jersey

Share

Sports betting will soon be available legally in New Jersey, as Governor Chris Christie has officially signed a new bill which partially repeals the US state prohibition on sports betting. The bill Christie signed was approved by the Assembly last week with a 27-1 vote, showing that the state means serious business with the betting.

With the approval of the Bill, casinos and racetracks in New Jersey will now be able to offer sports betting services to punters and bettors, but only on games and events taking place outside of the state to ensure that it won’t conflict with the Federal Law of 1992 on the area. Sports betting could already be starting this week, as the first place is set to be ready on October 26th.

Governor Christie has been extremely helpful for New Jersey in their pursuit of sports betting, having first vetoed a bill that could have repealed the states prohibition on betting and then announced to the State Attorney General Office to not prosecute any casino or racetrack offering sports betting to customers.
