Sportech Appealing £93 Million VAT Ruling

Share

Last Year, the online iGaming operator Sportech PLC had a VAT case in court regarding £93 million that they believed they paid too much in VAT to the state. The first case in court at the first-tier tribunal they won the case and was repaid the funds from the Majesty’s Revenue and Customs.

The happiness didn’t last long for Sportech however, as the decision was reversed in September last year by the Upper Tribunal Tax and Chancery Chamber, who ordered the company to pay the £93 million back to them. At that point they were given a deadline of October 15th to decide whether or not they wanted to appeal and do so.

They decided to appeal the ruling in the “Spot the Ball” case as it is referred to and they were given a reply today that the request has been granted by the Upper Tribunal Tax and Chancery Chamber, who will have yet another look at the case.

Sportech is expecting to hear more about the case later this year and believe that the law is in their favour in the case, hence the appeal from their side.
