Allegedly $4.2 billion of bets will be placed on the 50th Super Bowl on Feb. 7th, and almost 97% of those bets will be illegal. This is a growth of 8% over last year’s $3.9 billion and shows the impact of the illegal betting market, which is almost 35 times the size of the legal market, according to the American Gaming Association (AGA).

Geoff Freeman, president and CEO of the AGA, stated: “Just like football, sports betting has never been more popular than it is today. As Americans celebrate a milestone Super Bowl, they’ll also bet a record amount on the Big Game.”

The total estimated amount of bets of Americans in 2015 are $149 billion, which is $4 billion more than in 2014.
