Yesterday was the day that most British men has been waiting for since May, as the Barclays Premier League once again started. It was a day where only Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester United were playing of the top contenders and where it showed that in the first round anything can happen.
Manchester United was the first team to play and despite having bought some players and changed their coach to Louis Van Gaal, the red devils were no match for the Welsh Swansea, who beat the Manchester team 2-1. Arsenal and Tottenham had equally difficult matches, but managed to win despite the problems. Arsenal beat Crystal Palace 2-1 and Tottenham beat the local rivals from West Ham 1-0, despite getting a red card and penalty against them.
Today we have two very interesting matches, championship wise. The first match is on Anfield Road, where Liverpool takes on Southampton. Liverpool was so close to winning the championship last season, that it is certain they will try this year, despite losing Luis Suarez. Liverpool is a clear favourite with the bookies, giving 1.40 if they win, while a victory for Southampton is at 8.50.
After the Liverpool match, it is time for last season’s champions from Manchester City to show that they are still the best club in the UK. They are playing against Newcastle on Newcastle’s stadium and it is seen as a difficult away in the first match, despite the fact that Manchester City are big favourites. The bookies gives odds 1.65 for an away victory for City, while a home victory for Newcastle gives 5.5.
