Portugal Gives Out Eight Online Gaming Services License Under Regulated Gambling Market

Serviço de Regulação e Inspeção de Jogos (SRIJ), the Portugal online gambling regulator has issued its eight licenses to the operators, Estoril Sol, to provide online gaming services in the country.

The company was issued last year the first online casino license and will now be able to offer licensed sports betting services. The software of the company’s sportsbook is powered by GAMING1, a Belgian igaming supplier.

Estoril Sol is based in Portugal and is a part of the country’s gambling industry for over fifty years now. The company also has three land based casinos around the country, Casino Lisboa, Casino Estoril and Casino da Póvoa.

Regulated online gambling is comparatively newer for Portugal with regulations coming in last spring after the new law came into effect. The first license was issued in May 2016 to BEM Operations Ltd.

With the entry of the largest online poker room in Portugal, PokerStars became the only provider of the online poker services in the country. The market has seen positive growth in the first three-quarters ever since its existence, with the peak in the first quarter this year. Though the last three months ending June 30, 2017, saw a significant decline in the market.
