The first ever sponsorship agreement between a Ghanaian football club and a bookmaker is now a reality as Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC has signed a sponsorship agreement with the bookmaker Supabets, Sbcnews.co.uk reports today.
The deal is the first of its kind in the African country and leads the path for other clubs to do the same to get some publicity in the emerging betting markets of Africa. The deal has been signed for three years to start with, with additional years available should both parties agree on such.
The sponsorship agreement is the second biggest in the football club, worth GH Cedi 120,000 a year over the next three years. GH Cedi 120,000 is equal to around €28,000, showing that the sponsorship money in Ghanaian football are not very high compared to those of European or American football.
“That is the latest development in the club. We have signed a new sponsorship deal. Looking at the figures and the entire offer, it is the second highest deal after that of MTN. They will have their insignia over our jerseys, on our bus, at our training ground, home matches and so on” Operations Manager for Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC, Kennedy George said about the new partnership.
“It is important to state that, we have a crucial role to play to make this relationship a meaningful one. We will adhere strictly to the demands of the contract for mutual benefits” He added.
