Delaware is currently counting on a bill by Rep. Charles Potter, D-Wilmington, which moved through the House Gaming and Parimutuels Committee on Wednesday. If the bill turns into a law, would legalise and regulate the fantasy sports betting industry in Delaware.

Fantasy sports betting; that involves cash prize is not allowed in the state as per the current state law, and all the stipulation around it ended after it was cracked down by Delaware Department of Justice.

This bill introduced by Potter didn’t make it to the governor’s desk the last time it was introduced to the General Assembly two years ago. He believes that the added regulations will let the lawmakers reconsider.

The House Bill 249, if enacted would bring in tougher regulations on game operators. The operators apart from applying for licences and will have to comply with strictest consumer safeguards, they would be required to shell out 15 % tax on the net revenue apart from the $50,000 annual fees.

Delawareans engage in fantasy sports illegally, with some 150,000 odd numbers enjoying the online sports betting sites, it would be better to regulate and manage the industry.

This bill is aimed at bringing income into the state. With Potter claiming “If you imagine you have 150,000 people that are playing right now, that number’s going to grow when it’s legal, so if a person bets an average of $100 a month, you can do the math.”
