A plan to set up a horse racing betting facility on the premises of Chickie’s & Pete’s in Atlantic County is awaiting approval by the New Jersey Racing Commission. If the proposal goes ahead, visitors to the restaurant will be entitled to a complementary side bet with their seafood and fries.

Chickie’s & Pete’s is a bar and crab eatery located on Route 322 in the English House Plaza strip mall.

The proposed betting facility will be managed by the ACRA Turf Club which is also in charge of Favorites, a sports bar and betting establishment in Vineland.

The plan will be considered during a public hearing on March 21 at 7:00 PM.

Township Mayor James “Sonny” McCullough backs up the proposal. He commented that such plans are not new to the community and have actually been in the pipeline for the last four years.

Chickie’s & Pete’s is a favorite seafood and crab eatery that has outlets in several Philadelphia sports stadiums. If the horse race betting proposal is given the go-ahead, the facility may have to expand in order to accommodate more customers.
