Saipan Higher Education Financial Assistance (SHEFA) Seek Postponement of Relocation of Poker Parlours

Saipan Higher Education Financial Assistance, which gets its scholarship money from poker license renewals, supports moving the relocation of poker businesses on Saipan to a later date.

SHEFA gets it money for scholarships from poker license renewals and is in favour of postponing the relocation of poker parlours to a later date.  These parlours currently have until the end of 2017 to move to a so-called Garawa’s Adult Business Park.  By not postponing this law, many students relying on funding for college education will be negatively affected.

SHEFA’s chair Oscar Babauta recently stated: “By allowing the deadline to take effect SEFAS’s funding would be devastated and would affect the thousands of students that rely on the financial assistance they receive each semester.”

Discussions around the bill have been delayed but will pick up again at the next delegation session.
