Online Poker Bill Of Illinois Put On Hold

A meeting which was scheduled on Tuesday to hear on an online gaming bill in Illinois could not be materialised and has been postponed for unspecified time. The Poker Players Alliance, prepared to testify at the hearing said: “Wheels have come off in Illinois,” and further plan on to regroup and try again after a few weeks.

The bill, HB 479, which was introduced in January, needs to pass both the chambers and be signed by the governor to become a law. Though, the bill initially didn’t expect to draw much attention but cleared the Senate by a 42-10 vote on May 31. Along with the regulated daily fantasy sports online casino gaming is also being considered.

The situation as of now is that only the casinos in the state would be allowed to offer casino games over the internet, which might be limited to just fantasy sports.

The whole idea is to be able to generate revenue through taxes on the already going on activities. As the Lawmakers are aware of Illinois residents involving in illegal online gambling on unregulated Internet websites operated by offshore operators who are not subject to regulation or taxation in the United States. Taxed at 15 % rate under the bill on online gaming, it is estimated a revenue of $300 million could be generated.
