It’s been a while for Max Pescatori, aka The Italian Pirate, but the Italian poker player seems to be back on track, after winning the WSOP $1,500 Razz event. Pescatori hadn’t won a major event for many years, with the latest being at the WSOP in 2008 and 2006.

Pescatori has been a part of the live poker circuit since the start of the poker boom and even moved to Las Vegas to be able to play tournament poker on a daily basis. With the win and a first prize of $155,947 it is certain that we haven’t seen the last of him at this years WSOP.

“It’s been a while. This is very sweet, that’s for sure. I’ve done good here, but nothing matches winning. I knew this game was strong for me, so I felt that this gave me a good chance to get my third in this one.” Pescatori said after his victory, bringing his life-time winnings up to $3.3 million in tournaments.

The Razz event had a total of 462 entries, a 25% increase from the numbers of 2014, showing that the more “obscure” poker variants are gaining ground in the poker community. The tournament attracted several big names such as Eli Elezra, Tom Schneider and Randy Ohel, but none could beat Pescatori, who now has three gold bracelets to show off at home.
