Las Vegas Poker Market Sees A Spike, All Thanks To World Series Of Poker

The annual revenue generated from poker has seen a spike due to the annual World Series of Poker (WSOP), in Las Vegas which is set to start on Tuesday at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino.

WSOP is conducted in June for the entire month every year ever since 2007, which marked the record in Nevada market by generating game revenues in cash of $167.9 million.

The Las Vegas strip generated revenue of about $11.86 million i.e. the 12.2 % of Strip Poker revenue as compared to the entire year of $97.1 million in June 2007.

WSOP has significantly grown over the years to meet the gaming demands in peak season. While in 2007 there was a total of 54,288 entrants from 55 bracelet events, the number of entrants rose to 107,833 from 69 bracelet events last year. This year the numbers of entrants are expected to rise significantly and set another record as the bracelet events have gone up to 74 this year. The prize money of total $159,796,918 that was given out in 2007 had too gone up by 38.4% last summer, making it a total of $221,211,336.
