Bitcoin Unlimited has made its name as the runner-up Bitcoin solution to competitor Bitcoin Core after the number of its nodes reached 455. The figure shows there has been an almost twofold increase in BU’s individual node count as compared to several months ago. Hence, Bitcoin Unlimited’s enhanced performance seems to be paving the way for the rising trust in the company.
It is highly likely that Amazon AWS servers host the majority of the new BU nodes. While this is a very economical solution, it is undesirable as it contributes to increased centralization.
The number and distribution of Bitcoin nodes are essential for the proper functioning of the network as they are responsible for broadcasting transactions globally. Bitcoin Core remains the leading service provider with its 4,759 nodes but it is interesting to follow future developments. The company’s SegWit block scaling solution is seen as a potential leverage but it still remains a long way from reaching the 95% support required for activation.
