Regulators Prepare Visit to Cedar Rapids Casino Sites

Share

Gambling authorities in Iowa might visit the three urban casino sites located in downtown Cedar Rapids if the fiscal 2018 meeting schedule is approved on Thursday.

According to the timetable, the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission should have a sitting in Cedar Rapids on September 26 for public debate and site visits.

The casino proposals are as follows: a $40-million Wild Rose Cedar Rapids, a $105-million Cedar Crossing Central and a $165-million Cedar Crossing on the River.

At the Thursday meeting, the commission should deliberate on the fiscal 2018 meeting schedule, vote on a timeline to vet the gambling license requests for Linn County, and choose vendors for market research related to the casino applications. The studies should shed light on how much each gambling parlor would cannibalize revenue from competitors.

The companies applying for casino licenses are White Sand Gaming (Atlantic City), Annex Analytics (Cedar Rapids), Strategic Economic Group (West Des Moines), Union Gaming (Las Vegas), Marquette Advisors (Minneapolis) and Spectrum Gaming Group (Linwood).
