With casino gambling having been legalised only late 2016 in Japan, the global race for a slice of the pie has heated up.Japan’s future casino sector’s annual revenue is estimated to be in the vicinity of over US$10 billion and it is likely that this market will become, after Macau, the second largest globally.

Galaxy Entertainment has now entered the race along with Wynn Resorts, MGM Resorts, Macau-based Melco Resorts & Entertainment and Las Vegas Sands; all of which are planning their first casino resorts in the country.

These gambling giants are going to be competing head on with what is probably going to be only two or three licenses issuedby the government of Japan.

Francis Lui, Galaxy’s vice chairman yesterday stated: “We see loads of potential in the Japanese market and aim to win a casino license there in cooperation with Societe des Bains de Mer.”
