With the NFL soon moving to Las Vegas, it will be interesting to see whether players will manage to ensure compliance with the league’s policy on gambling. According to it, players are banned from appearing at casinos for any promotional activities.

USA Today has reported that a number of NFL players have arrived in Las Vegas for the Pro Football Arm Wrestling Championship. The list of names includes Steelers linebacker James Harrison, retired Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch, Miami Dolphins receiver Kenny Stills, San Francisco 49ers linebacker NaVorro Bowman, Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey, Raiders punter Marquette king and defensive end Mario Edwards, and New England Patriots safety Patrick Chung.

Joe Lockhart, NFL executive vice president for communications and public affairs commented that the act was “in direct violation of the gambling policy”.

Alan Brickman, co-owner of Encinal Entertainment which organizes the event, admitted to seeking the approval of the NFL to be included as a partner with the event. While the league refused to do that, Brickman said he was led to believe turning off the power on any machines in the area would keep the event within compliance.

It remains to be seen whether the players will be facing fines for their participation in the event.
