Manila police arrested a Chinese man for kidnapping a Korean national, who was unable to pay his debt. Gong Yu-Jia, the 28-year-old casino financier from Fujian, kidnapped the man for ten days and demanded P4 million from his family for his release.
The man also operates the gaming area of Pan Pacific Hotel in Ermita. Apart from the abduction charges, the man also faces charges of serious illegal detention, grave coercion and physical damage.
The Manila Police District arrested Gong after Jung Jae-hoon, a 39-year-old Korean national, filed a complaint. Jung told the police he borrowed a total P600,000 from Gong while playing casino at Pan Pacific hotel and lost the money.
On failing to settle his debt Jung was forcefully taken by Gong and ten other suspects on August 7 from his place at Le Mirage Condominium. He was transferred to two different locations in Malate for ten days.
Gong demanded P4 million from Jung’s family for his release after sending a bloodied photo of the victim who had his hands and feet both tied. Jung somehow managed to escape on the morning of August 17, after a Chinese man assigned to him, got drunk.
Jung straight away headed to the Korean Embassy and filed a police complaint. Police arrest Gong from Pan Pacific casino room after Jung recognised him. The ten other suspects are still at a large.
