Ilani Casino Opens April 24

The Ilani Casino Resort run by the Cowlitz Indian Tribe is scheduled to open on April 24. According to a press release by the tribe, the complex features 2,500 slot machines and 75 table games, a performance venue and 15 restaurants, bars and retail outlets.

The Ilani Casino in Clark County has costed $510 million to build.

A request to the U.S. Supreme Court against the development of the casino was submitted recently by card room owners of neighboring La Center but the court refused to hear the challenge. This is just one of several regulatory setbacks the Cowlitz Indian Tribe has had to deal with while working on the Ilani Casino Resort project.

Cowlitz Tribe Chairman Bill Iyall expressed satisfaction with the opening of the casino and outlined forecasts for attracting over 4.5 million visitors a year. The complex is expected to draw a minimum of $200 million per annum away from nearby competitors, other tribal casinos and the Oregon Lottery.

According to Iyall, the resort will create 1,200 new jobs in the region.
