Casino Project at Resort Venue Announced

Share

An entertainment complex in Blackpool is to undergo conversion into a casino. That was reported in local media following entrepreneur Peter Swann’s application with the Blackpool Council to transform the Sands Venue on Central Promenade into a gaming parlor.

According to the construction plan, the casino, along with a restaurant and bar, will occupy the first and second floors of the complex. All the facilities will be open 24/7. In addition, Mr Swann has been granted permission for three additional floors on top of the current building in order to build a five-star, 96-bedroom hotel.

Currently, there are four licensed casinos in operation in Blackpool – two of them are the Grosvenor based at the Sandcastle on South Promenade, and the remaining two are the Genting Casino and Coral Island.

All those licenses were obtained under the 1968 regulatory regime. The latest casino to open at Blackpool was at Coral Island in 2012, which created 65 full- and part-time jobs.

The Sands’ gaming establishment is expected to generate 30 full-time jobs.
